I was influenced by people around me on some of the things I do too! It came to a point that I realised I was doing it to please others and not something I wanted to do so I stopped pleasing people around me and be myself! When I started basics course on programming, I do come across people discussing about mechanical keyboards. I had the urge of joining their conversation to be part of the community too but decided not to as it is not a must-have and not something that interest me.

This mech keyboard subculture seems really strongly tied to tech work. I'm glad you were able to consciously turn down the idea! Maybe the lack of interest helped you there - I found myself having the interest and had to go a big circle to realise that it wasn't for me...

Life is full of trial and errors and it's never too late to realise something is not right for you =)

I work as an IT security analyst, and I identify with this post 100%! For a while I myself working to prove myself in a male-dominated field. The older I get, the more I choose to do me. Don't like it? Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

Oh yes, I can totally see this being even more of a thing for a woman in tech than for me, who is (unfairly) constantly having to prove that she belongs in the field. I'm happy for you that you found the courage to resist this!

What I wear!

I love a little

More drama in my clothing. I love lace gloves for example. After moving from NYC back to my small hometown 15 years ago, my fun accessories and dresses have gone from decorating me to decorating my mannequin and drawers.

People on my streets don’t dress like that. People in my family and my beau’s family don’t dress like that.

I have two back to back weddings coming up. I’m going to wear the lace gloves. I’m going to wear the dress that looks like sunshine!

Thank you.
