I love this and appreciate your vulnerability. I've often had these thoughts as a teacher when I look at all of these writers who have been published and made an impact and "what have I done???" But I know that I've made an impact on certain individuals and the books are still out there to write and here I am on Substack writing as well. I don't want to lose myself or my family to make a difference. I can do both, just on a smaller scale.
Whenever I’m thinking that I need to do something big and to change the world I will remind myself of this Chinese saying: 修身，齊家，治國，平天下. You can Google the meaning of this to have a better understanding.
Just saw Elon tweeting this, thought it's totally relevant and speaks to the sacrifices needed:
"I never wanted to be CEO – just wanted to work on product/technology. Bill Harris sounded like he would be a great CEO, given his Intuit experience, but he was not.
